Known limitations
Player Manager is deliberately honest about what it cannot do. These limits are mostly Minecraft's, not the extension's.
Limits you cannot avoid
Minecraft logs RCON connections
Every RCON connection prints a couple of lines in the console. That text is hard-coded in the game and there is no setting to turn it off. Player Manager keeps one connection open per page load and reuses it, so normal use adds about one line per page load rather than one per action. Removing them completely would need a server-side plugin, which this extension deliberately does not require.
Turning RCON on requires a restart
Minecraft only reads server.properties at startup. Player Manager restarts a server by itself only when nobody is playing. On a busy server that may take a while; the alternative is to press Restart now, which disconnects players. That decision is left to a human.
Long RCON answers are truncated by the server
Minecraft truncates long RCON replies. Player Manager reads player data field by field and inventory items one at a time to stay under the limit. A single slot with an enormous item — a written book with very long text, for example — can still exceed it, and that field then shows the last saved value. This is cosmetic.
The inventory editor needs the player online
Minecraft has no command to edit an offline player's inventory. Offline profiles are shown read-only from the last save.
Item amounts and enchantments on servers older than 1.20.5
On older servers, changing an item's amount replaces the item and drops its enchantments. Filling an empty slot with an enchanted item works on every supported version.
Without RCON, the console is used
The console fallback works but is limited: at most 12 names in the online list, data refreshed at best every 30 seconds, and a line in the console for each read. This is why RCON is set up automatically.
The panel can cache server state for a few seconds
Since 1.1.0, Player Manager checks the real server state before every action, so list changes are reliable. The tiles on the page can still be up to about 20 seconds behind if something else started or stopped the server.
"Restart now" needs the server's own restart permission
The button appears only for users who have both the extension's Connection permission and the server's Restart permission. That is intentional: the extension never restarts a server on behalf of someone who could not do it from the console.
Only Java Edition, 1.13 and newer
Bedrock servers, proxies (BungeeCord, Waterfall, Velocity) and Minecraft 1.12 or older are not supported. A proxy server in the panel has no players of its own to manage.
Known quirks
| Quirk | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The whitelist tile can differ from the game for a few seconds | The tile reads the file; the server holds the value in memory | Press Refresh |
| The online count can differ from the number of rows by one or two | The ping's name sample is capped at 12 while the count is exact | Use RCON for the complete list |
| A brand-new server says "Start the server once" | server.properties is written on first start | Start it once |
| History can be slow on a very large table | It is paged, and kept for a limited time | Lower Keep history for |
| Two admins editing the same inventory at once | Both see the same live state; the second drag is refused | Refresh; nothing is overwritten |
| Player heads come from an external site | That is the common source for Minecraft heads | Point Player head URL at your own host, or accept the request |
What is not claimed
Some setups were not part of the test matrix, so they are not claimed as verified:
- Online-mode servers with real Mojang accounts. Testing used offline-mode servers, which is the only way to run scripted players. The online-mode code path exists but was not exercised with a real authenticated client.
- Forge, NeoForge and Fabric. They use the same commands, but were not run in the matrix.
- Servers behind a proxy, where RCON often binds to a different address.
- Very large panels with thousands of servers. The automatic setup was verified with a handful.
- Panels older than 2.0.0-beta.2, which have no extension API.
If you hit one of these, your log and steps are genuinely useful — please report them.
Things that were bugs, now fixed
For the record, if you are on an older version:
| Symptom | Fixed in | Cause |
|---|---|---|
| Whitelist, operator or ban changes made just after stopping a server were lost | 1.1.0 | The panel's short state cache sent the command to a dead console |
| The Connection tile said RCON before it worked | 1.1.0 | The status trusted the file instead of a real connection |
| "Waiting for restart" stayed for a minute after RCON was up | 1.1.0 | A cached failure |
| A command echo line for every single command | 1.1.0 | The server's echo; now silenced with game rules |
| The page reconnected to RCON on every refresh | 1.1.0 | The connection was not reused |
