Recycle Bin & File History
These are the two safety nets that make File Manager Pro different from a plain file list. Both are on by default and are managed by your panel administrator.
The Recycle Bin
When you delete a file or folder, it moves to the Recycle Bin instead of disappearing. The bin sits inside your server, so restoring is instant and nothing is copied off the node.
What it catches
- Deletes made in File Manager Pro.
- Deletes made anywhere else in the panel — the native file list, API clients, other extensions — when your host has Send every panel delete to the bin enabled (the default).
What it cannot catch
Files deleted over SFTP, by the game itself or by a plugin never pass through the panel, so they cannot be recovered from the bin. The bin page says so, to avoid false confidence.
Restoring
- Open Recycle Bin from the Places sidebar.
- Find the item, and Restore it, or Restore to… a different folder.
- If a file with the same name exists, choose Replace, Keep both or Skip.
You can also press Undo on the toast right after a delete. Or press Ctrl+Z.
Restoring is instant because the file never left the server.
Space and retention
- The bin counts toward your server's disk limit.
- It has two caps: an absolute size and a share of your disk. The smaller one applies.
- Items are kept for a set number of days (seven by default), then removed automatically.
- If your disk is nearly full and the bin holds a lot of it, the file manager warns you and links to the bin so you can empty it.
Deleted files but the disk is still full?
They are most likely in the Recycle Bin. Open it and empty it, or delete the items permanently.
The bin and backups
The bin folder is automatically excluded from panel backups, so keeping deleted files around does not make your backups bigger. Only users with the permanent-delete permission can empty the bin.
File history
File Manager Pro keeps earlier versions of config files, so you can undo a bad edit long after the editor is closed.
When a version is captured
| When | What is stored |
|---|---|
| A config opens in the editor | A "Before editing" snapshot |
| Any save through the panel, from any editor or API client | The content before and after the save |
| An upload replaces a file | The old file, then it is moved to the bin |
| A version is restored | The current content, so the restore can be undone |
| Find & replace across files | Each file before it changes |
| Changed outside the panel | Only with change tracking on (see below) |
| By hand | "Save a version now", with an optional label |
Restoring a version
- Open the file's History (from the file's menu, or the History page).
- Pick a version from the timeline. The drawer shows the diff against the current file.
- Choose Restore. The version currently on disk is saved first, so you can undo this too.
You can pin versions so they are never pruned, and give them a label such as "known good".
What is kept, and for how long
- Only files matching the configured versioned file types are tracked, and only below the max versioned file size.
- Versions are stored compressed, and an unchanged file is only stored once, so repeated saves cost little.
- Each server has a history quota (100 MB by default). Old unpinned versions are pruned first when it fills.
- Pinned versions are never removed automatically.
A typical Minecraft server with a few dozen tracked configs and regular edits uses only a few MB of history.
Change tracking for SFTP edits
Saves made in the panel are always versioned. Edits made over SFTP or by plugins bypass the panel, so they are not versioned unless you ask for it:
- Open History and choose ⚙ Track changes.
- Pick the files or patterns you care about, for example
server.propertiesorplugins/**/*.yml.
File Manager Pro then checks those files every few minutes and stores a version only when the content really changed. Change tracking is off by default because it costs a little work on every sweep.
Unrelated changes are not shown as yours
If someone edits a file over SFTP and you then open it in the panel, the history shows the version captured at that point, not a false "you changed this" entry. Saves through the panel are always attributed to the account that made them.
Frequently asked
I deleted a file and the bin was off. File Manager Pro cannot recover it. Restore it from your own backups.
The bin was emptied — can you get the files back? No. Emptying the bin is permanent.
Why do I have less disk space after deleting things? They are in the bin, which counts toward disk usage.
